2. Data-driven overhaul of Gallery Desktop to optimize the creation experience for Target designers

Gallery Desktop - Original Design

My Role

My main role was to lead the research & testing for the redesign of the Gallery desktop application, from the initial planning stages to the final handoff. Our team had a specific goal in mind: how can we optimize the efficiency of the platform for 3D technical artists, while still ensuring consistency with the existing design system and addressing the needs of the users. Through various design methods and close collaboration with stakeholders and developers, we were able to successfully launch a more intuitive and user-friendly Gallery desktop application.

Reflection

During my summer internship at Target Corporate, I gained valuable experience and knowledge by working on their product design team. My project was focused on optimizing the efficiency of the Gallery Desktop for the 3D technical artists that use it. I faced a steep learning curve due to the niche scope and project area, but I was driven by my passion for learning and was proud of myself for how much I gained in just a few short months. This project has become one of my favorite experiences and I learned the importance of pivoting and making strategic decisions that lead to actionable design recommendations. I also learned the value of working with not just users, but also stakeholders such as developers and engineers, to create realistic and feasible solutions.
